Most heat pumps use synthetic refrigerants. Panasonic uses R744 (CO2) - a natural refrigerant that is better for the planet and better in the cold.
CO2 has a very low Global Warming Potential, making it one of the most environmentally friendly heating options available.

An air-to-water heat pump is a highly efficient system that uses heat from the ambient air for hot water production. Its heat energy output is about three to five times as high as the electricity input required to run it.
The Panasonic CO2 heat pump produces domestic hot water at 59 degrees C without requiring an electrical backup, even at an outside temperature of -10 degrees C.
The Panasonic external controller is WiFi-enabled, so you can manage your hot water and air conditioning together, straight from your smart phone.
